Robert Abela has announced that he will be opening his own bar later this week.

The Prime Minister made the announcement at a press conference this afternoon.

“I’ve been keeping it under wraps, but now I’m delighted to tell you that last month, Lydia and I bought a bar in Strait Street that wasn’t doing so well, and have spent the past month refurbishing it,” Abela said.

Abela added that the bar, which will have its grand opening this Friday night, will be nautical themed.

“It’s called ‘Waves’, and the clientele we’ll be marketing towards are my fellow lawyers, because there aren’t enough places for them in Valletta at the moment.”

The bar will feature an extensive list of cocktails created by Abela himself, with names like Il-Kburi, Makkanizimz, Roly Poly, La Siciliana and Underlying Conditions.

“And on Friday, my adorable daughter Giorgia Mae will be performing a tap dance routine dressed as a sailor.”

Asked if the bar will comply with the Covid-19 measures set out by the health authorities, Abela said:

“Of course not. I’m the Prime Minister. That stuff doesn’t apply to me.”
