Former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat hovered over workers’ shoulders and asked them what they were up to during unannounced visits to several ministries yesterday.
Muscat, who was forced to resign earlier this month, turned up unexpectedly at the Education, Health, and Justice ministries, as well as at his former workplace in Castille.
“No one knew he was coming. He just walked through the door and started chatting to people. It’s not like we could turn him away,” one Ministry of Education source said.
“He came up behind me as I was working at my desk and said “Hey, what are you working on? Anything cool?”. He stood there hovering for about 15 minutes. I know he’s our former boss, but it was a bit annoying to be honest,” she continued.
Another source at the Justice Ministry told a similar story.
“I told him what I was working on, and he told me it wasn’t the right approach and that I should do it differently. I smiled and nodded. What else was I supposed to do? I hope this doesn’t become a regular thing. He then asked some other colleagues if they wanted to go out for drinks after work. It was so awkward,” he said.
Muscat reportedly also showed up at Castille while current Prime Minister Robert Abela was in Brussels for talks with EU leaders.
“He asked if we could let him into his former office, because he missed the smell of the furniture in there and wanted a quick sniff for old time’s sake. It’s not like I could turn down Joseph Muscat. I just hope he didn’t steal anything or Abela will kill me,” one AFM soldier told Bis-Serjetà.
