A Maltese taxpayer has told Bis-Serjetà how happy she is that Ian Borg is using her money to pay for a sponsored post on Facebook, in which the Infrastructure Minister defends the controversial new construction laws.
Helena Vella, 28, from Rabat, saw the post – pictured above – while scrolling through Facebook on her phone before getting out of bed this morning.
“Most people prefer it when their taxes are used to pay for healthcare, education and public transport. But there’s nothing I love more than when a government official drops a couple hundred euros of public funds on a sponsored Facebook post written by himself in a pathetic attempt to contain the fallout from a populist, ill-thought-out change to the law by pretending to give two shits about public safety, Vella said.
“I mean I don’t understand the actual law or what the hell is going on in the construction industry, but I do understand the need to manage your public image at the public’s expense before an impending leadership bid. We’ve all been there,” she added.
Vella also said that while she admired such blatant misuse of funds online, she hoped politicians didn’t forget to sponge off people in the real world as well.
“I look forward to the day when a member of parliament stops me in the street to ask me for 20 euros to buy lunch at Da Pippo.”
Because we here at Bis-Serjetà are big fans of Ian Borg and want to give him as much positive exposure as possible, we are paying for this article to be boosted on Facebook too.
