Yet another litterbug has been found dead in the countryside, police have confirmed.
The victim – a Maltese male in his mid-40s – was found lying on a dirt road in the Majjistral Park in Mellieħa this afternoon with a battle-axe wound to the chest.
The man appears to have been in the process of dumping an old washing machine when he met his end.
The grim discovery follows the murder of two other people in recent days. The first, 25-year-old Mark Muscat, was found last Thursday next to a pile of discarded flyers in a field in Zejtun. The second victim, 38-year-old Karen Camilleri, was discovered on Saturday at the end of a trail of crisp packets and sweet wrappers in Buskett.
Although investigations are still in the early stages, police do not believe the three victims knew each other. The only thing that ties them together is that they were all walking in the countryside, and appear to have thrown their rubbish away improperly just before they died.
“Right now we have no leads other than that the perpetrator’s calling card seems to be a plate of delicious Swedish meatballs,” a spokesperson for the Malta Police Force told Bis-Serjetà.
Asked what advice the police would give to the public, the spokesperson said: “Whoever is committing these murders must really love nature, so maybe don’t be a dick and throw your rubbish away like a civilised person?”
