‘Under PN we didn’t even have bread and milk’, insists Labour supporter

People living in Malta were not able to buy bread and milk when the Nationalists were in power, according to a Labour supporter.

The supporter’s comment came after Finance Minister Edward Scicluna announced a one-time government bonus of €35 to households to compensate for the increase in bread and milk prices.

While some have claimed the payment is paltry and is merely an attempt to mask over the problem of the rising cost of living, Labourite Karen Grima accused them of being ungrateful.

“Don’t these people remember how bad the famine was during those 25 years under PN? How hundreds of Maltese people starved to death, with the rest being forced to beg for scraps on the streets, which were all full of giant potholes than you could easily fall into?” she asked.

“I remember when I was just a little girl, leaving our hovel early in the morning to go hunting for ants with my dad because all the cows had died and the fields were barren. All because of Fenech Adami and Gonzi,” she added.

Grima also recalled how a fearsome dragon terrorised Malta during that time, with the PN doing nothing to stop it from destroying entire towns and carrying off several maidens.

“And then, just as we’d lost all hope, Joseph The Saviour appeared in the form of an armour-clad angel. He slew both the dragon and the PN, ended the famine and put gold in everyone’s pockets. I shudder to think what Malta would be like now if it weren’t for him.”

“And then some people have the nerve to complain about being given the princely sum of €35 by our brilliant master of coin, Edward Scicluna? Ingrates with poor memories, that’s what they are,” she said, adding that she would be giving her bonus back to the government as an offering in the next fundraising telethon.
