Maltese people are eagerly waiting for the US presidential election to enter the civil disorder stage.
As votes continue to be counted, the bitterly fought contest between incumbent Donald Trump and Joe Biden is, at the time of writing, too close to call, despite Trump prematurely claiming victory.
However, many Maltese have expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of vote counting, and want to skip straight to watching the violence many predicted would occur if the result was not immediately conclusive.
“Every election, I always get excited and say I’m going to stay up late to watch it all unfold. Then I get sleepy and remember it’s all really boring anyway. I just want Proud Boys and Antifa to start going at each other in the streets, if I’m being perfectly honest,” said Benjamin Farrugia, 36, from Mosta.
“A lot of people are interested in the ins and outs of the American electoral college system, but Molotov cocktails and tear gas canisters flying through the air make for much better entertainment in my opinion,” agreed Lisa Brincat, 25, from Birkirkara.
“I’m going to stop refreshing BBC News and wait for the ‘tanks roll into Washington DC’ headline to appear on my phone,” chimed in Paul Grech, 48, from Santa Venera.
