A veteran Lovin Malta journalist has retired at the age of 21.

Amber Scicluna, from Swieqi, joined the media platform as an 18-year-old intern while studying for a B. Communications at university.

In four years, she wrote an average of 50 articles a day, racking up 1,623 spelling and grammar mistakes, 584 factual errors and 167 misquotes.

Lovin Malta editor-in-chief Tim Diacono said Scicluna’s experience would be sorely missed.

“I remember during her interview, all those years ago, how she showed an incredible ability to get over-excited about absolutely anything, which is the main thing we look for in a writer. Now, as our oldest journalist, she has a wealth of knowledge – particularly in the area of reality TV contests – that can’t easily be replaced,” he said.

During her farewell speech at her retirement party, Scicluna shared her favourite moment while working at Lovin.

“It was when Nicola from Love Island announced on Instagram that Dale had farted in front of her for the first time. I was among the first to see the reel and immediately rushed to my laptop to report on it. It’s a huge moment in any relationship, let alone that of a celebrity couple, and I feel privileged to have had a front-row seat to such a groundbreaking, and wind-breaking, event.”

The company has now begun the search for newborn babies to replace Scicluna.

Meanwhile, the retired journalist will now start a podcast about the challenges of old age.
