Malta needs to put its own people first and protect its borders, according to a newly spray-tanned Silvio Schembri.
The economy minister – who is now also sporting wispy blond hair – gave a rambling press conference in which he attempted to justify the comments he made yesterday about foreigners having to leave Malta if they lose their jobs.
“Some of these third-country nationals…what is a third country anyway? Is there a fourth country? Some of them, I assume, are good people. But we don’t need them anymore. We did need them before, but now we don’t, so they gotta go. They gotta go, folks. Bye bye,” Schembri said, before pointing at a Maltatoday reporter and calling him ‘fake news’.
“The only people that matter are the Maltese people, the perfectly tremendous Maltese people. We can do all the jobs so intelligently. Why do we need foreigners anyway?” he mused.
Schembri added there would be “billions and billions” of euros available to struggling businesses, while insisting that Malta would weather the storm.
“No one knows more about the economy than Silvio Schembri, believe me. After all this is over, everything will be on the Blockchain. Very advanced technology. My father, the mayor of Luqa, invented it. Very smart man.”
The minister did signal that he was prepared to be flexible on work permits.
“Maybe I’ll let the beautiful Serbian women stay. How about that?”
