Jason Micallef has questioned where Labour would get its new MPs from if ONE TV was ever forced to close down.
The ONE TV chairman was commenting on the legal case brought by Lovin Malta to determine whether TV stations owned by political parties violate Malta’s constitution.
Several current Labour MPs got their start in the party as presenters and ‘journalists’ on ONE.
“Can you imagine if Silvio Parnis, Glen Bedingfield and Rosianne Cutajar – shining beacons of intellect one and all – never became MPs? I certainly wouldn’t want to live in such a world,” said Micallef, who himself started out as the presenter of a gardening show.
“Being a presenter on ONE gives you all the skills you need to be a great member of parliament. Just look at Jean Claude Micallef. One minute he’s doing memory games with pensioners on daytime-TV variety shows, the next he’s making the amazing suggestions that women who get an abortion abroad should be arrested when they return to Malta.”
However, Micallef was less complimentary when it came to Nationalist Party MPs who started out on PN media, such as Claudette Buttigieg, Clyde Puli, Kristy Debono and David Thake.
“Do these people think that just because they used to host TV and radio shows, that automatically means they can become MPs? These morons – not a single brain cell between them – only got elected because people recognise them. It makes me sick, it really does,” he said.
