Wied Qirda was definitely asking for it, according to Infrastructure Minister Ian Borg.
The Minister was speaking after heavy machinery moved in to widen and pave the path that goes through the picturesque valley in Żebbug in recent weeks.
“If Wied Qirda didn’t want to be ruined, it shouldn’t have been dressed so provocatively in pretty greenery,” Borg said.
“When you see a pristine valley looking attractive with its protected carob trees on full display, it’s human nature to want to roughly uproot them and spread your asphalt everywhere,” he added.
Furthermore, Borg said, Wied Qirda never said no to being double-teamed by himself and Infrastructure Malta CEO Fredrick Azzopardi.
“But I’d just like to emphasise once again that I will not tolerate illegalities, except when I do,” Borg concluded.
