‘Is something going on?’ asks Swedish igaming employee

A Swedish igaming employee has asked if something out of the ordinary is going on in Malta.

27-year-old web developer Sven Svensson works for gaming company MegaBettingSlots.

“Over the past month and a half I’ve noticed my Maltese colleagues have been a bit more tense than usual. Has something happened? Nothing bad I hope,” said Svensson, who lives in St Julians and last year ventured beyond Gżira for the first time.

“I’ve heard rumours of protests, but that can’t be right because Maltese people are so docile and never protest about anything. I thought it might have been one of these mass meetings you people think are a sign of a healthy democracy.

“I also checked whether there was a pastizzi shortage, or if the government had banned on-street parking on busy roads, because those are the only two reasons I can think of why you guys would ever take to the streets.”

Svensson said he even went to Valletta to investigate.

I didn’t find see or hear any protests but I did notice you have set up some sort of Christmas village. My favourite attraction was the ice-skating rink. I didn’t actually skate myself but I really enjoyed watching a bunch of fat Maltese children fall on their faces.

Svensson said he hoped whatever was going on would not affect his job in Malta.

“I like it here, mela ta. Please don’t make me go back to Sweden. We always make fun of you for being stupid and corrupt but secretly we wish we were – what’s the Maltese phrase – ABZ, as you all are.
