Konrad Mizzi has announced he will start giving private lessons to immigrants on how to avoid paying tax.
The former tourism minister was criticised yesterday after writing on Facebook that immigrants must be grateful to Malta and “respect the country, its people and its culture”.
The post was viewed by many as pandering to racists.
“After the backlash I received, I realised I’d been a bit too harsh on migrants,” Mizzi said.
“It’s all well and good telling them to respect our country and so on, but then you have to actually show them how to integrate.
“That’s why, from next week, I’ll be starting private lessons on how to take kickbacks, open offshore shell companies in secretive jurisdictions, and avoid paying tax like a true Maltese person who respects the laws of his country.”
Mizzi said the first lesson would consist of repeating Malta’s national motto – ‘Min ħexa mexa, u min ma ħexiex inħexa’ – over and over again.
This would be followed by tutorials on the basics of money laundering, forming alliances with people who have friends in the police, and using family planning as an excuse if you get caught.
“In just a few weeks, they’ll go from unwanted degenerates to upstanding pillars of Maltese society, like me,” Mizzi said.
