Bis-Serjetà managing editor and supreme god-emperor Karl Stennienibarra has offered an unpaid internship to disgraced former Times of Malta journalist Ivan Camilleri.
Camilleri has been without a job since he was fired from The Times, after being accused of tipping off Yorgen Fenech on his impending arrest. He has also been accused of shoplifting, and is alleged to have paid a supermarket owner €5,000 to keep quiet.
“We here at Bis-Serjetà believe in rehabilitation and second chances. With that in mind, I have offered Ivan Camilleri an unpaid internship at our glorious news organisation,” Stennienibarra said.
“If the internship is successful, he may be able to resume his career at The Independent or something.”
As part of his internship, Camilleri will be carrying out essential tasks around the Bis-Serjetà head office in Għarb, Gozo, such as making tea and coffee, going out to buy pastizzi, cleaning the toilet, fanning Karl with palm fronds, and being a human foot-stool whenever the BS editor needs to stretch his legs.
“An unpaid internship at Bis-Serjetà is worth so much more than a paid job at The Times, free fuel aside, presuming they still offer that perk.”
Asked if Camilleri would be allowed to write anything, Stennienibarra said:
“No, I’m afraid not. He’s been caught too many times making stuff up. If there’s one thing we abhor here at Bis-Serjetà, aside from tipping off journalist killers, it’s inventing stories.”
The BS editor added that, despite being given a chance to redeem himself, Camilleri would be on a tight leash.
“If he so much as steals a grape, I’ll kick his ass out onto the street again and he’ll have to sell his body for money. Either than or get a job with Simon Busuttil when he goes to Brussels.
