The Abortion Stick has been placed back in its cabinet after being used on Bernard Grech.
The Abortion Stick is not, as its name might suggest, a stick used to perform abortions, but one with which to beat anyone who is not rabidly against the legalisation of abortion. Due to its considerable length, it is very difficult to dodge.
Over the years, the stick has been used to great effect against politicians, who are threatened with a thrashing unless they publicly declare that abortion is murder and that the topic is not up for discussion.
In recent days, the Abortion Stick has been used by Adrian Delia’s camp and the Labour Party to force Bernard Grech – who is competing against Delia to become the new PN leader – despite the latter’s declaration that he was ‘pro-life’, with the caveat that he would listen to arguments in favour of legalisation.
“The chances of me becoming Prime Minister, and a referendum on abortion taking place, and the pro-legalisation vote winning, are infinitesimally small. But when someone comes at you with the Abortion Stick, you say whatever you can to save yourself,” Grech told Bis-Serjetà.
After using the stick, Delia returned it to its glass cabinet, where it is housed in the Archbishop’s Curia in Floriana.
“As someone who has always lived a Catholic life – never once abusing alcohol, doing hard drugs, or hitting my wife and kids – I feel I am the right person to wield the Abortion Stick whenever called upon to do so,” Delia said.
Last month, the stick was also used against Therese Comodini Cachia when she emerged as the figurehead in the movement against Delia. She has not been heard from since.
