Chris Cardona has said he plans to let his hair down and have fun, now that he is retiring from parliament.
The former economy minister confirmed reports that he was stepping down as an MP to focus on his private ventures.
“In my 24 years as a member of parliament and a cabinet minister, I have always conducted myself with the highest level of decorum, never once bringing my own name or position into disrepute,” Cardona told Bis-Serjetà.
“The thing is, I was so focused on being a paragon of virtue, that I never really had time to enjoy myself in the ways that people with fewer responsibilities do. Well, that change as of today.”
Asked how he planned on letting his hair down, Cardona said:
“Oh, nothing too hedonistic, of course. Perhaps a dram of whiskey every now and then, or a bit of innocent flirtatious banter with a member of the fairer sex. I don’t think my good lady wife will mind too much, seeing as I have never been anything but a loyal husband throughout our marriage.”
Despite his commitment to living a more easygoing lifestyle, the soon-to-be-former-MP ruled out taking harder drugs.
“You mean like marijuana? Good heavens, no! I know I said I would commit myself to having more of a good time, but I would never consume anything like that. For one thing, I wouldn’t know how to procure such substances, seeing as all my companions are upstanding members of society.”
Cardona added that, once the Covid-19 pandemic subsides, he planned on taking more holidays abroad.
“Usually, I’m so busy attending summits and conferences and in general representing Malta in the best way possible, that I never find the time to explore the places I’m in. At least now I’ll have time for such exciting things as museums,” he said.
