‘I wish I’d thought of that’ says Konrad Mizzi on William Hawk’s Coronavirus scam

Konrad Mizzi has said he wishes he had come up with a plan to profiteer off the Coronavirus like William Hawk has done.

William Hawk is the man behind the Facebook group ‘Coronavirus Malta EU Updates (William Hawk)’, which earlier this week spread panic on Covid-19 with fearmongering posts and sensationalist articles, before promoting a recently-created website selling protective gear for vastly inflated prices.

“For weeks I’ve been racking my brain trying to think of a way to profit from the Coronavirus, then this Hawk kid comes along with his group. I’m seriously impressed,” said Mizzi, who brokered several dodgy deals during his time as a minister, including the Vitals Global Healthcare deal that saw the government hand over three hospitals to a private company with no experience in the healthcare sector.

“It’s one thing to cynically sell items for several times their actual value. Pharmacies have been doing that too. But to create a Facebook group to terrify all of Malta’s gullible idiots into buying your crap, and causing them to panic and raid supermarkets – that takes skill. Even I never made people ransack a Lidl,” he added.

Mizzi predicted that Hawk would one day become a government minister like him.

“If he ever needs advice on how to screw over an entire country, and pocket millions in the process, my door is always open. Not that he needs my advice; he’s clearly a master.”
