‘If people are unhappy then why is no one protesting?’ asks Muscat

Joseph Muscat has questioned the idea that people are unhappy with the government’s policies by pointing out there would be at least one protest if this were the case.

Speaking during his weekly Sunday interview on One Radio, Muscat said, “As far as I’m aware, not one person has expressed their discontent at the way the government and its institutions are running the country.

“If people really were unhappy, then I’d expect to see them gather together on the streets – probably in Valletta – brandishing placards, chanting slogans and listening to fiery speeches.

But I watch One News every day and I haven’t seen anything like that. On the contrary, I only see stories about how strong the economy is, how PN is in turmoil and how brilliant I am, which is very flattering.

Muscat added that, regardless of the complete lack of protests of any kind, the government would still be putting plans in place to protect the environment.

“The environment needs a lot of protection. Mainly from itself. Like the other day I watched a video on YouTube of a Burmese python swallowing a cow whole. Rest assured that the government is working round the clock on legislation to safeguard Maltese cows from pythons.”
