Isle of MTV goers and Dream Theater fans were left feeling confused and angry last night, after the pop concert and the prog metal gig switched venues with each other without informing their respective audiences.
Isle of MTV is usually held at the Granaries in Floriana, while Dream Theater’s concert was scheduled to take place concurrently at the MCC in Valletta. But for reasons unknown, the organisers of the two gigs decided to swap at the last minute.
“What is this crap? I can’t dance to this,” said Emma Baldacchino, 18, from Birkirkara, who had queued for two hours to watch Bebe Rexha from the front row.
“Don’t panic. I’m sure everything will be OK once the bass drops,” reassured her friend, Ben Sammut, as guitarist John Petrucci launched into the solo of Enigma Machine.
“The last time I checked Instagram, Martin Garrix didn’t have a big plaited beard,” said 19-year old Kira Fenech.
Over at the nearby MCC, Dream Theater fans were equally bewildered.
“I don’t understand what’s going on. I came out of my basement expecting to listen to some sweet 20-minute songs that have three different time signatures,” said prog metal fan Adrian Buhagiar as grime artist Wiley took to the stage.
“Put my hands up in the air? James LaBrie never tells people to put their hands up in the air,” said Karl Mifsud, 32, from Mosta.
“If I wanted to listen to some commercial pop rubbish I’d go to a Metallica gig,” he fumed.
