A Labour supporter hates unions now.
Jesmond Borg, 45, from Qormi, expressed his disdain for unions following industrial action by teachers and doctors in recent days.
“Who do these unions think they are? They can’t just decide to down tools because they disagree with our glorious, most benevolent government, which always has everyone’s best interests at heart,” said the supporter of the Malta Labour Party, which was founded as a left-wing workers’ party a century ago.
Borg, who describes himself as a socialist, also suggested the practice of collective bargaining should be banned.
“If teachers, nurses and the like want better pay and conditions, they should individually contact their local MP and get favours that way, like the rest of us. None of this striking and inconveniencing everyone.”
The Labour supporter concluded that, while he enjoyed hating unions, he looked forward to the end of the Covid-19 pandemic so he could go back to hating NGOs most of all.
Bis-Serjetà is facing the threat of legal action
Yes, that’s right – Apparently I hurt the delicate feelings of Yorgen Fenech’s upstanding lawyers, and now I could be charged with contempt of court.
Since I haven’t actually been summoned yet, I haven’t created a specific crowdfund for legal expenses for the time being. But even if the threat never materialises, I still need your support to run this website, so I would appreciate it if you signed up to my page on Patreon – a funding site for artists, creatives and serious journalists – for as little as €2 a month. It takes a minute to sign up.
