Man United fan decides to visit Crete after seeing Visit Malta ads

A British Manchester United fan who saw adverts for Visit Malta while watching his team’s 1-0 victory against Leicester City this afternoon has decided to visit Crete.

Season ticket holder Christopher Wright, 32, from Salford, was sat in the Stretford End at Old Trafford with his friends when he saw the adverts, which are part of a sponsorship deal announced yesterday by the Malta Tourism Authority.

“I saw the advert at the stadium and thought to myself, ‘Malta, that sounds nice’. I’ve always wanted to visit the Mediterranean, and my parents are always talking about how lovely Malta was when they used to go there,” Wright told Bis-Serjeta.

“So while I was on the tram home I googled the country. Now don’t get me wrong, Valletta and Mdina and the beaches look beautiful. But I like to do my research and I saw a lot of posts on forums saying how shabby it’s become in recent years, what with all the construction and lack of planning. It’s also become more expensive apparently.

“Then I looked at other countries in the region and landed on Crete. Wow! Now there’s an island that looks quintessentially Mediterranean. Amazing beaches, great food, idyllic countryside, and cheaper than Malta too, apparently. Anyway, I’d best book a flight while prices are low.”

Wright thanked Maltese Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi for helping to bring Crete to his attention.
