Michael Briguglio has expressed his absolute certainty that people will start coming to his weekly meetings one day soon.
Briguglio has been hosting public events in a room at the PN’s Dar Ċentrali headquarters every Wednesday since he announced he was contesting the European Parliament elections eight months ago.
However, so far, no one has turned up.
“The weather’s been pretty bad the last few days, so I guess people have been staying indoors,” Briguglio told this reporter – the only other person present – after waiting for more than an hour.
“I have loads of friends in AD, Graffitti, PN…one of them will definitely come eventually, right?”
Briguglio then began pacing around the room while miming playing the drums.
“I blame Netflix to be honest. There’s so many great shows at the moment that stop people from going out. Have you watched the Fyre Festival documentary? So good.
“Maybe that’s where I’m going wrong. At the moment I only put 10 hashtags in every Facebook post. I need more hashtags, a mysterious square, Instagram influencers, top models…
“By any chance do you have Gigi Hadid’s number? You look like the kind of person who would,” he asked.
Briguglio’s hopes were momentarily raised when someone knocked on the door, only for the cleaner to come in and ask if he was done because she needed to get everywhere tidy.
“Also Adrian told me to tell you to turn all the lights off because last week you forgot and we really do need to save money,” the cleaner added.
Before walking off alone in the rain, the MEP candidate remained optimistic that at least one person would attend next week.
“Hey listen, thanks for coming. Do you want to take these pastizzi and stuffed olives home? It’d be a shame for them to go to waste…again.”
