Police issue guidance on how to drive in a heatwave

The Malta Police Force has issued advice on how to drive safely during a heatwave.

As temperatures reach 39 degrees celsius, many workers will soon be going back to their cars after leaving them in the sun all day long.

“Upon entering the car, under no circumstances should you grip the steering wheel firmly with both hands. This will almost certainly cause first-degree burns,” read a post on the police’s Facebook page.

“Instead, gently steer using only your thumbs and forefingers. Or preferably, your teeth.

The advice also states that to avoid heat stroke, drivers should wind their car windows all the way down, open the doors, and strip naked. But don’t wear your seat belt or you could end up with a nasty scar.

“All this should be done while the car is moving as fast as possible to generate a refreshing breeze. Like, 80 kmph minimum,” the post said.
