Robert Abela has announced he is saving on energy bills at the Office of the Prime Minister by going on yet another yachting holiday.
The Government has embarked on a cost-cutting exercise to save money on energy in the wake of skyrocketing prices, which includes keeping air conditioners on at no less than 24 degrees.
Speaking during an interview on ONE Radio, Abela said he would also be doing his bit.
“As the leader of the country, I feel I have to set an example and not just let the public sector bear the brunt of the new measures. So I will once again be leaving the country on my yacht to avoid using electricity at the office. No thanks are necessary,” the Prime Minister said,
Abela did not specify how long he would be away for.
“That depends on how long this energy crisis lasts. If I have to spend the next six months hopping between islands in the Mediterranean, or maybe even head to the Caribbean, then so be it. It’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make,” he said.
The Prime Minister encouraged his fellow cabinet members to follow his example.
“Clayton Bartolo is the biggest culprit when it comes to wasting energy, because the lights are on but nobody’s home.”
