In a few hours, the most important football match in Malta’s history will take place, when Italy and England face each other at Wembley Stadium in the final of Euro 2020. To the rest of the world, this is simply a game between arguably the two best teams of the tournament. But to us Maltese, it’s so much more than that.
Like many racists in Malta, I was rooting for Hungary at the start of the Championships. I didn’t know who any of their players were, but I admired their country’s hardline stance on immigration and the gay agenda. Sadly, as Russia also found out, being homophobic doesn’t necessarily guarantee you success on the pitch, and the country went out in the group stage.
Luckily, the two most popular teams in Malta ended up making it to the final, and now it’s time for us patriots to choose which foreign country to cheer for – our former colonial masters, or the ones who dropped bombs on us. Here are a few arguments in favour of each. Which will it be – Forza Azzurri or Come On Inglund?
Why you should support Italy
- No black players
- They take most of the immigrants, allowing us to remain a mostly white Christian nation.
- Invented Fascism
- Very nationalist national anthem
- Their fans dress up as Roman soldiers. Ave!
- Their players refuse to participate in the woke-snowflake-liberal-Marxist-Communist-Antifa-BLM gesture of taking the knee
- Home of hero and patriot Matteo Salvini
Why you should support England
- Country currently led by a right-wing government, headed by a racist prime minister
- Gave the EU the middle finger
- Cheered on by right-wing tabloid newspapers who will blame their black players if they lose the final
- Super nationalist national anthem
- Their fans dress up as Templar knights. Very cool. Deus vult.
- Their fans boo other countries’ national anthems
- Their fans boo the woke-snowflake-liberal-Marxist-Communist-Antifa-BLM gesture of taking the knee
On balance, I would have to say that, despite Italy’s lack of black players and historical fascism, England should be the Maltese racist’s choice for the final. Football’s coming home! Well, to England, not our home as such, but anyway.
