Woman’s plan to be sad in January thwarted by sunny weather

Karl Stennienibarra

A woman’s plan to be sad in January is being thwarted by unseasonably sunny weather.

The woman, 30-year-old Deborah Grech, said she came up with the idea to schedule her misery last year.

“I suffer a lot from Seasonal Affective Disorder, so gloomy weather and short days really get me down. But instead of trying to fight it, I decided to accept it and write January off as a month in which I was allowed to be depressed, so I could then focus on being happy for the rest of the year,” Grech told Bis-Serjetà.

“But we’ve had – what – two rainy days over the past month? It’s very hard to be miserable when the sun is shining and the temperature is perfect for long walks in the countryside with friends. I even went for a swim this week,” she added.

Grech said she was considering switching her ‘sad month’ to July instead.

“As you can probably guess, I’m a summer girl but I can’t be doing with that 40-degree nonsense. Maybe that’ll be a better month to stew in my sadness while lying in bed without the energy to do anything, and literally stew as well.

“And in any case, I guess there will be plenty of time to be depressed later this year when the climate collapses, Donald Trump is re-elected and we all get drawn into a war with Russia to distract from the world’s problems.”
