Yorgen Fenech, the man charged with masterminding the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia, is wondering how much he will have to donate to L-Istrina for him to be forgiven.
“I am really going to have to get the cheque book out this year,” the former chairman of the Tumas Group told Bis-Serjetaà from his prison cell in Kordin.
“I reckon 2 million ought to do it. And I could present it on the world’s largest oversized cheque. A cheque the size of Gozo. Like, actually unfurl a cheque over Gozo. That should earn my forgiveness in the eyes of the Maltese public.
“I also need to think of my forgiveness in the eyes of God. If Hugo’s son can absolve himself from all manner of shady shit by donating a few toys to an orphanage run by nuns, how many toys would I have to donate? 10,000? Or one giant toy perhaps?
“Maybe I could build an orphanage the size of Gozo. Actually turn Gozo into an orphanage. And then unfurl the giant check over it.
“Then they’ll have no choice but to release me. I can’t wait for the 26th,” he said before softly singing the charity show’s ‘Flimkien, f’solidarjetà’ jingle to himself.
