Restaurant applies for permission to add petrol station

A restaurant has applied for planning permission to add an artisanal petrol station to its premises.

Karla’s Kitchen in Attard – which last year won a prestigious ‘Not As Good As It Used To be’ star – is adding the petrol station in an attempt to diversify its product offering and attract more patrons in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Offering food and drink just isn’t enough anymore. Our focus groups show that more and more people want to eat out while choking on fumes and struggling to be heard over the sound of traffic,” owner Carla Deguara told Bis-Serjetà.

In keeping with its gourmet vibe, Karla’s won’t just be serving the standard unleaded and diesel.

“You could argue Malta already has more than enough petrol stations. But right now, the actual variety of fuels is very limited, so we want to provide people with lesser-known artisanal fuels, lovingly sourced from places like Angola and Oman.

Deguara said she was confident the Planning Authority would approve her application.

“If you can add a restaurant to a petrol station, then surely you can do it the other way round too,” she said.

If given the green light, the petrol station will replace the garden currently located across the street from Karla’s.
