Professor Charmaine Gauci, the Superintendant for Public Health, has announced there are five new cases of Covid-19 in Malta, but no new Premier League titles for Liverpool Football Club.

“While I’m sad to report there are 11 new cases in Malta, bringing the total number of cases up to 64, the good news is that there are no new Premier League titles for Liverpool FC,” Prof Gauci said at the start of her daily briefing to the media.

“This means that Liverpool has not reported a new league title in the past 30 years, and remain stuck on 18 titles, two fewer than Manchester United, the most decorated English club of all time,” she added.

Prof Gauci emphasised the importance of starting the 2019/20 Premier League season from scratch, rather than re-starting the current one at a later date.

“The latter option would not only wreak havoc on the fixture schedule, but would also significantly increase the risk of Liverpool getting a new title, which is a situation we desperately want to avoid,” she said, before ending the press conference with a rendition of ‘Glory Glory Man United’.
