Pro-lifers overtake racists as most hateful group in Malta

Karl Stennienibarra

Anti-abortion fundamentalists have overtaken racists as the most hateful group of people in Malta.

With the issue of abortion back in the news last month following suggestions that former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat would work to legalise it in Malta, so-called ‘pro-life’ activists have been busy sending misogynistic threats of death and violence to their pro-choice counterparts.

Death threats aside, pro-lifers have cemented their place at the summit by continuing to deny women the right to have control over their own bodies.

The top spot of Malta’s hate-group league table has changed hands several times over the past month. From mid-November to December it was occupied by Labour trolls who suggest that Matthew Caruana Galizia was responsible for his mother’s murder, while the racists enjoyed a surge in early January, following the fire at the Marsa open centre.

Pro-lifers have been bolstered by the vocal support of President George Vella, who was reluctant to intervene in the political crisis, but did not hesitate to get stuck into the abortion debate.

The group also claims to enjoy the backing of God, despite the fact that the Almighty is responsible for aborting around 50 percent of all pregnancies in the form of miscarriages, making Him the world’s foremost butcher of fertilised eggs.

The racists will be looking to reclaim top spot in summer, when migrants’ boats are more likely to be brought to the island.

It is predicted that pro-lifers will respond to this article with comments such as ‘What’s hateful about being against baby murder?’ despite the fact that abortion is not murder in either a legal, moral or semantic sense.
